Overcoming Depression

Love in the Trees
Daily Affirmations.

"I will live each day in love with myself and others" -Nathalie A

All my life I have struggled with depression. I have try many different methods to fight against it. Gone today and come back tomorrow; depression has always been my silent passenger. I always try to find the antecedents that put me in a state of overwhelming sadness. But I can't seem to keep depression at bay. Life has a way of breaking through my defense and setting me up for the fall. I hated all the anti-depressives and paying all my money to a psychologist who didn't help me.  Many medications trigger my depression, therefore defeating the it's purpose. My overeating to self medicate just made me more depressive with a side of self loathing. Depression will use every good power that you have against you. I didn't have the knowledge then that I have now. I will win this fight.

Studies indicate that the most common reason for depression is the lack of interests and activities. When improving your personal life, interests and activities are vital in mental health, self esteem and happiness. Although this does not help much when fighting boredom, or other problems but you can best improve your mental health by practicing many of them until you do well.  When you are depressed it easy to forget all of the things we liked to do.  Motivation can help us overcome trying something new or remembering exactly what  made us happy. Asking friends and family to help motivate me is a tool that I use when I'm in the need of a little push. Rewarding myself when accomplishing tasks, such as getting the laundry done before watching your favorite television show.

I wrote a list of 5 things I really enjoy doing.

1. Fine arts: I love painting with acrylics. I sometimes dabble in mix-media. It excites me to know that I started a beautiful painting with one stroke, then two and so on.

Painting of Baby
I painted my nephew when he was 5 months

2. Reading: I love all kinds of books. I love the smell and feel of them.

3. Cooking and baking: Putting together recipes I never try before.

4. Music: The music we have now is crap, but music from different parts of the world is great.

5. Playing and loving my son. The light of my world.

Inside Moms Belly
My impression of how I thought would look like in my belly.

I have to focus and motivate myself to stay doing the things I love. I have to stay positive. Negative thinking also plays a major role in depression. The happiest of people experience the same pain, suffering and sorrows, just like a person depressed. To accept troubles gracefully and keeping a positive attitude is where you'll find how some people cope with things on a different level. Ask yourself, are your expectations realistic?  Accepting a situation for what it is can eliminate your negative feelings.  Taking action for your own negative ways of thinking and turning those thoughts positive means that you are motivating yourself to change.  Tackle what is bothering you, and take a bad situation and turn it into something good.  A little humor helps my situation from time to time, meaning laughter does a great deal for our mind and body. Try not to constantly worry about being happy. Developing interests, activities, friendships and learning how to cope with the emotional pain will conquer your personal problems and further solve your thinking habits.  Doing this will get you on the road of happiness, as long as you put forth the effort. Writing this blog is therapeutic and my greatest effort against depression.
